Prophetic skincare with black seed oil and olive oil

Prophetic Skincare: The Ancient Beauty Wisdom of Islamic Tradition

Beauty in Islam is not vanity. It is gratitude.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Indeed, Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty." (Sahih Muslim 91) Caring for yourself and presenting yourself with dignity, with the right intention, is part of showing gratitude for the body you were given.

Two of the ingredients at the heart of our skincare — black seed and olive oil — are mentioned in authentic hadith. The rest are simple botanicals chosen with care.

Here is a guide to those ingredients — and how to bring them into your daily ritual.

Ingredients Mentioned in the Sunnah

Black Seed — Al-Habbah as-Sawdā'

The Prophet ﷺ said: "In this black seed there is healing for every disease except death (as-sām)." (Sahih al-Bukhari 5688, Sahih Muslim 2215)

Black seed (Nigella sativa) oil is rich in fatty acids and a natural compound called thymoquinone, and it has long been used in skin and hair care across the Muslim world.

Find it in: Rose Body Oil with Calendula and Black Seed and Black Seed Beard and Face Oil.

Olive Oil — Az-Zayt

Allah mentions the olive tree in the Qur'an, describing a lamp "lit from a blessed tree, an olive" (Sūrat an-Nūr 24:35). And the Prophet ﷺ said: "Eat olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it is from a blessed tree." (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 1851, graded sahih by al-Albani)

Olive oil is naturally rich in squalene, vitamin E, and oleic acid, which soften and moisturize the skin. Our Rose Body Oil is infused in olive oil.

Calendula

Calendula is a gentle flower that has been used in skin balms for generations to soothe dry, rough and irritated skin.

Rose — Al-Ward

Rose and rose water have been loved across the Muslim world for centuries, in cooking, in perfume and in beauty. For skin, rose is softening and hydrating, and its scent is simply lovely.

Chamomile

Chamomile is one of the oldest and most widely used plants in the world, and a classic gentle botanical for sensitive skin.

Find it in: Organic Chamomile and Rose Lotion Bar.

Tea Tree

Tea tree oil is a fresh, clarifying essential oil often used for oily and breakout-prone skin.

Find it in: Tea Tree Whipped Body Butter and Tea Tree Sugar Scrub.

A Simple Daily Ritual

Morning

Wash your face gently. Apply Calendula and Rose Face Oil or Black Seed Beard and Face Oil. Say bismillah. Go out into your day having cared for yourself with purpose.

Evening

Begin with a warm bath using your chosen bath soak. Exfoliate with a sugar scrub. Soothe any dry spots with Calendula Salve. Apply a whipped body butter to damp skin. Seal with Rose Body Oil. Finish with face oil and Rose Lip Oil. Rest with gratitude.

Weekly

Massage Rosemary Hair and Scalp Treatment into your scalp for 5 minutes. Leave for 30 minutes or overnight, then wash out.

Self-Care With the Right Intention

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Actions are only by intentions." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1, Sahih Muslim 1907) When you care for your body with a good intention — to look after what Allah has given you, and to present yourself with dignity — an everyday routine can become an act of gratitude.

This is what Teatentional is about. Not just beautiful products, but a thoughtful way of living.
